Julius Caesar
Lived from 100-44 BCE. He was a highly successful general. He conquered the area Gaul. People liked him. He was a really good speaker. He was friends with Pompey (a general who conquered Syria and Palestine) and Crassus (richest man in Rome, one of the richest men in all history). Those 3 men formed the First Triumvirate "rule of 3 men". Julius served as a consul (one year). He said he was the governor of Gaul. Pompey gets jealous, becomes his rival. Caesars armies clash with Pompey's in Greece, Asia, Spain, and Egypt. Caesar was winning. in 44BC he is named dictator first for 6 months then for life. Caesar is granted citizenship to people in provinces. He expanded the Senate and created jobs for the poor through public works projects. He also increased pay for soldiers. He started colonies where those with out land could own property. Caesar was assassinated in the Senate because he was stabbed 23 times. Julius Caesars grandnephew and adopted son Octavian takes over at 18. The second Triumvirate consists of Mark Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian.
