Ancient Greece
The 4 main civilizations are Mesopotamia (Tigris and Euphrates), Egypt (Nile), India (Indus), and China (Huang He). The Greeks thought of the Mediterranean Sea as the center of the world. The Adriatic Sea, Ionian Sea, and Aegean Sea surrounded Greece. Greece is located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. It is very mountainous and easier to cross by water. Crete is a large island South of Greece. Greece is a peninsula with mountains that cover 3/4 of it. There is 2000+ islands among these seas. Greece has limited resources so they had to trade often. It was difficult to unite Greece because of the terrain. They developed small, independent, city states. Their jobs included sailors, shipbuilders, farmers, metal workers, weavers, and potters.
